Member Reservation of Honey Harvest Sets

Paid DC Beekeepers Alliance Members may borrow one of the club's honey harvesting sets. All 2019 students are also members. 

Harvest sets are available first-come, first served and must be picked up. PLEASE SIGN UP FOR EACH DAY that you will need the tools. You may use the gear for up to 72 hours. All tools must be returned clean, complete and ready for the next user. Reserve one session of no more than 3 days at a time: you may sign up for future dates after a current reservation is complete.

Available Honey Harvesting Sets

DCBA owns 3 complete sets of tools. The larger sets are helpful for harvests of multiple hives where work and cleanup room is plentiful. The small set is designed for smaller harvests or workspaces. The three sets are:

• Large Honey Harvester 1: stainless steel, manual radial extractor able to harvest 3, 6, or 9 medium frames simultaneously, or 3 deeps in tangential mode;
• Large Honey Harvester 2: stainless steel, manual radial extractor able to harvest 3, 6, or 9 medium frames simultaneously, or 3 deeps in tangential mode;
• Small Honey Harvester: light weight plastic manual tangential extractor capable of harvesting 2 mediums or 2 deeps simultaneously.

What's In Each Set

In addition to the extractor, each honey harvesting set includes:

• 1 bottle Bee-Quick
• 1 fume board
• 2-part stainless steel filter
• 3 uncapping forks
• 1 hot knife
• 1 small uncapping tank
• 1 long spatula
• 1 bottling bucket with lid
• 1 full-size baking sheet

Clean Up Requirements

DO NOT DISASSEMBLE EXTRACTOR to clean (replacement parts no longer available in North America). Please do not use hot water (melts wax, becomes impossible to remove) or bleach (leaves odors/flavors), and avoid the use of soap to clean equipment. Thorough rinsing (garden hose OK) and wipe down with clean cloths/towels OK.

We are managing reservations through Sign Up Genius, and your full name and email is required. The latter should match the email we have associated with your membership. You can check this by logging into www.dcbeekeepers.org with your username and password. You have the option to retrieve your password on the site. 

Please remember to complete a sign up for each day that you will be using the tools.
